Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has publicly invited Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, amid growing political speculation in the state.

• Speaking to reporters on March 17, Sarma said he has not personally contacted Bordoloi but believes he may not have a reason to remain in Congress.
• He added that the BJP would welcome him and offer an opportunity to contest the upcoming Assembly elections.
• Sarma said Bordoloi would be accorded the same respect as senior leader Bhupen Kumar Borah if he joins the party. There has been no response from Bordoloi so far.
