Responding to the ongoing protests at Dibrugarh University over admission-related issues and a recent fee hike, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, on March 12

  • Responding to the ongoing protests at Dibrugarh University over admission-related issues and a recent fee hike, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, on March 12, said the State Government remains firmly committed to implementing the Fee Waiver Scheme as well as the special 50 per cent fee waiver for self-financing courses at the university.
  • Pegu urged all stakeholders to carefully go through the guidelines of the scheme and assured that the government intends to implement it in both letter and spirit. Addressing concerns related to reimbursement, the minister also stressed the need for timely submission of Utilisation Certificates (UCs) by colleges and universities.
  • “Institutions must ensure that Utilisation Certificates are submitted well before the close of the financial year. UCs submitted towards the end of the financial year become difficult to process and may lead to delays or lapses in reimbursement,” he said.
  • The clarification comes amid protests by students at Dibrugarh University over admission-related concerns and the recent fee hike. Students have also objected to certain remarks allegedly made by Ranoj Pegu, which they claim were disrespectful to the legacy of the Assam Movement.
